1. Choose The Right Timing
Alright, capturing great french style sunset pictures can be tricky sometimes. Because we can possibly forget or miss the right timing while wandering around in beautiful Paris streets. Maybe be more aware of timing and actually have a plan will be handy.
In Paris, during summer (June – September), the best sunset shooting time is normally after 7:30 pm. Please be aware it is totally ok to shoot photos under mid-day sun if you really want to.
Just know that the pictures won’t be as pleasant under mid-day sunlight. Because the lighting is directly from the top of the head and it is not soft at all. So I would say it is recommended that not shoot under direct sunlight. But if you can find a shadow, that would be great too!
During summer, the sun normally sets completely around 9:30-10:00 pm. So you have around 1,5 – 2 hours to make the most use of for taking your beautiful pictures. The light in the shadow will gradually become bluer. So stay under the sun will give the best result while taking sunset photos. Of course, it is just my personal preference.
For winter, the sun sets very early and quickly. So it is better to go around 4:30 – 5:00 pm. Winter light tends to be softer than summer lights. Maybe you can get a cup of hot chocolate afterwards too! So French Style too!
2. Choose the Right Place
The best thing about Paris is that wherever you go, almost all the public places, streets are instagrammable (excluding places with specific prohibitions for taking pictures, please double-check or ask for permission).
I normally choose places with huge stone walls, stone columns, typical Parisian street lights that are carrying french style vibes and aesthetics. So places that can help me to create shadows in the background or contrast.
But of course, you can also try a cafe on the street or in the park (normally a lot of people are having a picnic around sunset, it depends on whether you like many people as your background or not honestly ;)).
3. Styling – Paris Chic Style
Voilà ! Here is a section where I share a bit more about the Paris Chic Style. Everyone might have a different definition of Paris Chic Style. And of course, this section serves the purpose of sharing some inspiration. You can definitely create your own selection in another way/style and I am sure it will work out great too!
Now, we already have Paris as our background. We can try some cute summer dresses, floral dresses, long high waist Jeans with white tops, or tank tops with skirts.
Yes, you can also drop by the florists and get some flowers. And Cafe shops along the street can be a great place to go too. I think it works the best when you use these tools as part of the storytelling process. You can try to embed the tools as part of the story you have in Paris that write your Paris diary. Or the moment you are enjoying Paris etc.
Another chic style could also be joining a chic party and dinner party, which I will illustrate more in my future posts.
